How to Use Goal Import

Goal Import enables you to seamlessly migrate your existing goals into Quantum Workplace, ensuring a smooth transition.
In this article, you’ll learn how to import your goals using a downloadable template and troubleshoot any potential issues along the way.
How to Import Pre-Existing Goals
To sync existing goals, you'll need to:
Download Sample File
- Navigate to the Goals dashboard under Administration and select "Import".
- Click "Download Sample" to access the pre-made template.
- Locate and open the downloaded CSV file.
Upload and Validate File
- Next, enter your previous goal data into the CSV file, matching each value to the corresponding columns defined here, then save.
- In Quantum Workplace, click "Next", then "Browse", and select your recently saved file to upload.
- Click "Upload and Validate".
Run Import
- Once the file is validated, run the import by clicking "Create x Goals".
- If you have more goals to import, select "Import Another File" and restart the process. Otherwise, you're all set.
Refer to this glossary for explanations of each field in the upload template to ensure your data aligns with system requirements. Fields underlined in bold are required, while others are optional.
- UniqueID: Each goal must have a unique identifying code of your choosing.
- AlignToUniqueID: Smaller goals can be nested under a larger goal by aligning them to a shared UniqueID.
- UserIdentifier: A singular goal owner, defined by their username or employee ID.
- Name: The title of your goal.
- Description: A summary of the goal's purpose.
- Type: A goal can be categorized as organizational, organization, developmental, development, personal, individual, or team.
- Privacy: Goals can be public (visible to all users), or restricted (visible to the owner, Contributors, and admin users).
- Start*: The goal's starting date.
- Due*: The goal's anticipated completion date.
- Completed*: The goal’s actual completion date.
- OnTrackStatus: This may be left blank or you can select one of the following status updates, if applicable: OnTrack, AtRisk, or OffTrack.
- Tags: These are searchable terms that can be added to help categorize goals related to an overarching theme or initiative.
- Category: These are admin-created categories that provide a high-level overview of the company's goal focus.
- Note: Goal categories must be created in Quantum Workplace before importing, as this file will not create new categories—only add goals to existing ones.
- Contributors: Partners who share responsibility in completing the goal.
- Followers: Observers who opt to be informed of a goal's progress.
- IsPerformanceGoal: Determines if the goal should be set as a performance goal. Options include Yes, No, 0, 1, true, or false.
- KeyResult: Each individual goal may have up to three associated key results, including:
- Name: Name of the key result, defined by what you are measuring.
- Type: Unit options include percentage, percent, numerical, number, complete/incomplete, complete, financial, dollar, usdollar
- StartingProgress: The initial reference point based on the unit type (e.g., $0, 5%, etc.)
- CurrentProgress: The present status of the key result, expressed in terms of unit (e.g., $100,000, 35%, etc.)
- TargetProgress: The final target value of the key result, expressed in the relevant unit type (e.g., $1,000,000, 100%, etc.).
- OnTrackStatus: This may be left blank or you can select one of the following status updates, if applicable: OnTrack, AtRisk, or OffTrack.
- UserIdentifier: A singular goal owner, defined by their username or employee ID.
*Dates can be formatted as M/d/yyyy, MM/dd/yyyy, M-d-yyyy, MM-dd-yyyy, yyyy-M-d, yyyy-MM-dd, yyyy/M/d, yyyy/MM/dd
Troubleshooting
- Occasionally, invalid data can result in the file being rejected.
- If this happens, a red banner will appear with the option to "Download Error Details." Click it to download and open the file, where you can review the data validation errors.
- Review the validation errors and make the necessary adjustments to ensure the file meets validation requirements.

The most common validation errors include:
- Date formatting issues – Ensure all dates in the file follow the approved formatting options.
- Duplicate UniqueIDs – Each goal must have a unique UniqueID to avoid conflicts.
- Missing users – Verify that all listed employees are active in your Quantum Workplace account.
Another potential error message may occur if a file is uploaded in a format other than CSV. If this happens, you may encounter this error:
To convert a file to CSV, open it in a spreadsheet program like Excel or Google Sheets, then select 'Save As' or 'Download As' and choose the CSV format.
