Survey Analytics: Questions Report

The Questions report breaks down the favorability ratings of a survey, both overall and question-by-question.

Overview

The Questions report displays the favorability data for a given survey, both an overall favorability as well as the favorability question-by-question. 

Use this article to learn how to navigate and examine survey data via the Questions report, as well as how to use additional analytical features, i.e. filters, slices, comparisons, etc.

  • Available to admin and survey-admin users
  • Available to users granted access via the survey's Access Settings, learn more

Access the Questions Report

To access the Questions report:

  1. Click and expand Analytics in the left-hand navigation menu
  2. Click Surveys & Pulses
  3. Click the survey to view its analytics
  4. Click and expand the Reports drop-down
  5. Click Questions

Navigate the Questions Report

The Questions report displays the favorable rating, with an overall rating at the top and for each question.

To navigate the Questions report:

  • A. Chart Legend: Click the different favorability options to adjust the overall and question-specific favorability ratings reflected in the report 
  • B. High-Impact: Indicates if a question is a High-Impact question
  • C. Results: Indicates the favorability for each question
  • D. Comments: Indicates the number of comments left for each question; click the number in the Comments column to navigate to the Comments report
  • E. Insights: Indicates if a question has a corresponding Insight; click the Insights ribbon to enter an insight and view any existing insights for the question

Filter, Slice By, and Compare To

Beyond analyzing the Questions report via favorability ratings, the Filter, Slice By, and Compare To functions can be enabled for deeper insights. 

When enabled, filters, slices, and comparisons are kept active when navigating across the different survey reports as well as for exported reports.

Filter 

Useful to view data for any given department or demographic at a time. 

For example, filter the survey results by the Finance department to isolate the Finance department's results. 

To enable a filter:

  1. Click Filter to open the Filter modal
  2. Click a demographic to expand the sub-demographic options 
  3. Click the icon for the sub-demographic(s)
  4. Click Apply

To clear the filter option, open the Filter modal and click Clear All > Apply.

Slice By

Slicing results highlight how a demographic responded to a question via an interactable range with each demographic's rating.

In the following example, the survey results are sliced by Department. The interactable range for the Overall Favorability and for each question displays how the different departments responded.

To enable a slice: 

  1. Click Slice By to open the Slice By modal 
  2. Click on the demographic to slice your results by
  3. Click Apply

To clear the slice option, open the Slice By modal and click Clear

Compare To

The Compare To function allows you to select other surveys, benchmarks and Best Places to Work benchmarks to compare against your survey results.

Active comparisons will show up on the results as a pin. Hover the mouse cursor over the results to highlight the active comparisons and the favorability ratings.

      Smart Slices (BETA)

      Smart Slices automatically identifies and highlights questions with significant differences in favorability. These potential outlier questions are a great opportunity to investigate specific questions and uncover the context for each question, whether it be positive or negative. 

      To use Smart Slices:

      1. Click Apply Slice for a corresponding Smart Slice to apply and enable the relevant slices
      2. Use the different reports to investigate any context to better understand the potential outlier

      By Time & Trend Over Time

      For analysis based on dates, click All Time in the top-right to expand a drop-down menu with a list of pre-set dates and a custom date range option. 

      Select a date range to narrow the scope of the results to the time range selected. 

      Automated Surveys & Trend Over Time

      Automated surveys that continue to collect data over time have an additional Trend Over button. 

      Trend Over Time allows you to observe and measure how your survey results changed over time, whether that be by month or by quarter. 

      To remove the trend data and visual, click Trend Over Remove Trend.

      Export Survey Results

      Survey results can be exported as a PDF, Excel, or PowerPoint document.

      Note: Any active filters, slices or comparisons will be reflected in the exported report. 

      To export the Questions report:

      1. Click Export in the top-right
      2. Select the appropriate file format
      3. Open the exported report from your browser's downloads folder
