Goals 101

An introduction to important Goal terms and concepts.

Goals & Key Results

The difference between a goal and a key result:

  • Goal: The overall objective, typically descriptive
  • Key Result: The goal's smaller, more focused elements that measure whether the overall goal is accomplished

Goal Types

A brief description of the available goal types:

  • Development: Goal around learning new skills and competencies
  • Personal: Drive the efforts of an individual or group of individuals
  • Team: Organize and reflect the collaborative effort of a team
  • Organizational: Organize and set the direction of the entire organization

Goal Members

A brief description of the goal member categories:

  • Goal Owner: Responsible for the goal's completion - Able to update key results, edit goal details, and has full visibility into the goal; a goal can only have one Goal Owner
  • Goal Contributor(s): Able to update a goal's key results and has full visibility into the goal
  • Goal Follower(s): Has full visibility into the goal, but cannot update key results
