How to Configure Recognition Settings in Admin

Learn how to manage post settings for Recognition in Assembly.

In this article:

Overview

As an admin, you can customize your organization's recognition settings in a single place in your admin dashboard. These settings apply organization-wide, though you can make exceptions for managers and admins depending on the setting. Changes take effect immediately.

Core Values Configuration

If your company uses core values, you can configure them in Assembly for use when giving recognition or awards.

[Screenshot: Core values configuration panel]

  1. Go to https://admin-app.joinassembly.com/recognition/settings
  2. In the 'Core values' section, enable the 'Can assign company core values to recognition post' toggle
  3. Input your core values, separated by commas
  4. To make core values required when giving recognition, enable the 'Set core values as required' toggle
    • When enabled, users must select a core value before posting
    • When disabled, core values are optional
    • Note: This requirement does not apply to awards, which have separate core value requirements

Post Settings

Minimum Character Count

Require recognition messages to meet a minimum character count, which encourages meaningful recognition instead of short, generic messages.

  • When enabled, all recognition messages must meet this minimum
  • We recommend at least 100 characters

GIF MPAA Rating

Set the rating for GIFs that users can select in posts. This setting applies to recognition, awards, replies, spaces, and announcements. Your GIF library is powered by GIPHY.

Disabling Boosts in Replies

By default, employees can add additional points as 'Boosts' in replies on all posts. You can disable boosting in replies to limit point exchanges to peer-to-peer recognition only.

  • When disabled, the boost option is hidden for all Recognition, Award, and Announcement posts
  • Note: Automated Celebrations can have individual boost permissions configured separately

Hide Points from Posts

By default, points are visible in all posts and replies. You can hide them from general view while keeping them visible to the giver, recipient, and admins.

Giving Recognition to Groups

Assembly uses 'groups' to allow employees to give recognition to entire departments, work locations, and custom groups. Control who has permission to give recognition to groups—every employee always has the option to select multiple individual recipients in a single post.

Allow Private Recognition

Configure whether employees can post recognition privately (visible only to the giver, recipient, and admins). By default, all recognition is public.

  • When enabled, employees with permission will see a 'Visibility' option to change from 'Everyone' to 'Private'
  • By default, admins always have permission to give private recognition
  • You can extend this permission to Managers or Everyone
  • Note: If connected to Slack or Microsoft Teams, private recognition is delivered as a DM rather than in the public channel

Advanced Settings

Maximum Percentage of Points per Single Post

Prevent employees from giving all their points to one person in a single post or boosted reply.

  • When enabled, employees cannot give more than the designated percentage to a single user in one post
  • Example: If the maximum is 20% and your allowance is 100 points, you cannot give more than 20 points to one person in a single post
  • Admins are excused from this limit by default; you can extend this exemption to Managers
  • Note: Employees can still give recognition even if they've reached the limit to that person

Maximum Percentage per Refresh Period

Prevent point-swapping by limiting how much of an employee's allowance they can give to the same person per refresh period (monthly, quarterly, or yearly).

  • When enabled, employees cannot give more than the designated percentage to a single person total per cycle
  • Example: If set to 20%, you cannot give more than 20 points to the same person that month, even across multiple posts
  • Admins are excused by default; you can extend this to Managers
  • Employees can still give recognition even if they've reached the limit
